Observation of the natural world has always been the point of departure of my paintings and drawings. My work seems to be a constant oscillation and search for balance between representation and abstraction, organic shapes and geometric order, what’s being shown and what’s being hidden. Whether starting from a flower, a twig, an insect or a moss, I simplify and flatten their shapes in my paintings, as if to conceal their identity in order to find their hidden meaning, their (or my) relationship to the larger world. Here, the size of the flower paintings makes them akin to the human body. The gesture of the painter and the gesture of the flowers seem to echo each other, as if the point was not to paint the flowers&Mac226; semblance, but their energy, their choreographic destiny.
