I didn't take a picture of the leg with just the raw wrapping. The twine went on pretty well, I gave it a couple of coats of marine epoxy and sanded it. The twine was pretty hairy so there was quite a bit of sanding.
It's painted with metallic paint. One trick is to paint with a light color, let that dry, then paint with black or a dark color and rub it off with a rag before the paint can dry. That leaves the dark paint in the cracks and crevices and makes the texture stand out.
