The Prince, the Girl, the Shoemaker, the Page, and the three wise men
I used an old Punch that we had around as a pattern for the bodies. The hands are made of felt with fingers sewn in and stuffed.
The bodies should really be double thickness, or lined. that way you can fasten the hands very solidly to the inner layer and it doesn't show. You can put some elastic around the wrists so they grip your fingers.
The Wise Men rod puppets on the right are just foam rubber wrapped with cloth, tied with thread, and painted. The rod goes up through the head so the hats don't fall off.
These puppets performed at the Wild in the Woods art party in the fall of '06. Garcia-Lorca's The Little Girl Who Watered the Basil and the Inquisitive Prince." Here is a picture of the theatre.
